Importing residents via CSV

Goal

This article will show you how to add residents to a community using a csv imported into the resvu admin portal.

Before you get started

Your admin account must have the correct permissions and community access to upload users.

To check your permissions, navigate to:
Settings ➡️ Admins ➡️ Edit your chosen admin ➡️ Roles & Permissions ➡️ Expand Residents ➡️ Ensure full access is selected for both options.

To confirm the community is assigned to your admin account, navigate to:
Settings ➡️ Admins ➡️ Edit your chosen admin ➡️ Set Communities ➡️ Ensure the target community is selected.

To confirm the community exists in the admin portal, navigate to:
Settings ➡️ Communities ➡️ Confirm the community appears in the list.

Accessing the CSV upload

Step 1 – Navigate to users
Select residents, then select users.

Step 2 – Open upload users
In the top-right corner, select upload users.

Downloading the csv template

Step 1 – Download the template
In the upload window, select download template to download a template CSV file.

Step 2 – Review formatting instructions


In the upload window, open the PDF instructions to confirm how to format your data before uploading.

Preparing your CSV file

Step 1 – Complete required fields
The following fields are required for each row:

  • First name

  • Last name

  • Email address (single email only)

Step 2 – Add optional fields
You can also include optional fields such as:

  • Lot number

  • Unit number

  • Mobile number

  • User type

Validating the csv

Step 1 – Select the target community
In the upload window, select the target community using the community selector.

Step 2 – Upload your file
Select browse files to upload from your device. You can also drag and drop the csv file into the upload window.

Step 3 – Validate the upload
Select Validate to run a check on your file.

If there are errors, resvu will display the affected row so you can correct the data and re-upload.

Step 4 – Complete the import
Continue with the upload once validation passes by selecting proceed with (number of) rows.


Review the log to confirm which rows were successful and if any rows failed.

When you are done, select close.

Confirming uploaded residents

Step 1 – Review app status
After upload, residents will appear in the users table. By default, imported residents will show as Not invited under App Status, unless the resident already exists in resvu.

Step 2 – Understand existing users
If a resident email already exists in another community, resvu will link the accounts.
If the resident has already activated their account in another community, the linked resident may display as Live, pending activation, or activation expired.

Step 3 – Send invitations
When ready, select the uploaded residents and send invitation emails as needed.
