How to Register an SMS Sender ID

Register your company's sender ID so you can send SMS from resvu, as required by the Australian Government's SMS Sender ID Register.

Goal

This article will show you how to register a sender ID so your company can send SMS messages from resvu. You will learn why registration is required, what information you need to prepare, how to submit a registration, and what happens after you submit.

Why Registration is Required

The Australian Government has introduced the SMS Sender ID Register, operated by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), to stop scammers impersonating trusted brands in text messages. From 1 July 2026, all sender IDs must be registered — messages sent from unregistered sender IDs will have the sender name replaced with "Unverified" or be blocked entirely.

Registration is completed through Amazon, resvu's SMS delivery provider. As part of the register's anti-scam rules, message providers must verify the identity of the business and its authorised representative before a sender ID can be approved.

This is why a government-issued photo ID is a required part of your registration.

You can read more about the register on the official ACMA website:

Additionally

"Under the Telecommunications (SMS Sender ID Register) Industry Standard 2025 (sections 5 and 12), the provider registering a sender ID must verify the identity of the business's authorised representative using a high-assurance identity verification service, including government-issued identity documents."

Until your sender ID registration has been approved, SMS sending from resvu will not work.

Before You Get Started

You will need admin access to Settings. Have the following ready before you begin, as all of these are required to submit:

  • Your desired sender ID (3–11 alphanumeric characters, usually your company or brand name)

  • Proof of sender ID connection — a document showing the link between your company and the sender ID (e.g. trademark or branding evidence)

  • Your Australian Business Number (ABN) and entity type

  • Details of an authorised representative: first name, last name, email, and phone number

  • A government-issued photo ID for the authorised representative

  • Company registration documentation

  • Company details: legal name, identification number (ABN/ACN/ARBN), and website URL

  • Your company's registered address and a contact email and phone number

A Letter of Authorization (LOA) can also be uploaded but is optional. Upload files must be PDF, PNG, or JPEG, with a maximum size of 500KB.

Submitting a Registration

Step 1 - Open the Sender ID Page

Navigate to Settings ➡️ Sender ID, then click the + New registration button in the top right.

Step 2 - Enter Your Sender ID

Enter the sender ID you want to register and upload your proof of sender ID connection. The sender ID is the name residents will see when they receive an SMS, so it should clearly match your company or brand.

Step 3 - Complete the Australia Specific Info

Enter your ABN and entity type, then the authorised representative's first name, last name, email, and phone number. Upload the representative's government-issued photo ID and your company registration documentation. Optionally, upload a Letter of Authorization.

Step 4 - Complete the Company Info and Address

Enter your company name, company identification number (ABN/ACN/ARBN), and company website URL. If you trade under a different name, add it in the Doing business as field. Then enter your company address: address line 1, city, state/province, postal code, and country code.

Step 5 - Enter Contact Info and Submit

Enter a contact email and contact phone number for your business's point of contact, then click Submit for review.

After You Submit

Your registration will appear on the Sender ID page with a Pending review status. The registration is reviewed by Amazon, and you will not be able to send SMS from resvu until it has been approved.

Once approved, your sender ID becomes active and SMS sending is enabled. Your active sender ID is shown at the top of the Sender ID page. You can edit or delete a registration at any time using the icons on the right of the table.
